Designer's Statement

The site is of close proximity to the Former Tanjong Pagar Railway station which will be transformed into a new public institution, one of it being an art gallery. In addition, Tanjong Pagar has seen an upsurge in art clusters throughout the years, one of which is the art murals lined up against the walls of shophouses in the district. As such, ‘Ever-moving’ was designed to draw people out from the comforts of their homes and delve into the wonder of arts.
Ever-Moving's framework structure (grids) was inspired by the 'grids' of HDB void decks.

The structure's intention was to create voids with the grids and use them to create different space configurations. To fit the theme, the void spaces can be reconfigured into different activity spaces. Curves were added later to depict the continuous movement of performing arts as well as to act as a guide for people to move around the spaces, derived from elements of fluidity of performing arts.

Whenever there is a performance coming up, a temporary exhibition will be displayed in the structure. At some grid intersections, curved moving screen frames were also positioned and programmed to display information about forthcoming performing arts events. Similarly, when there are no upcoming performances, residents can use the void spaces for other purposes (for example, to display their own artwork or to hold art classes).
