Designer's Statement

In the heart of our city, the underground passage, once neglected and consigned to oblivion, would become a masterpiece of revitalization, a symbol of renewal that unites the community.

The underground passage, situated beneath busy city streets, has over the years become a witness to urban decay. Its once sturdy walls have become dilapidated, and the lights that were once a symbol of the passage are now obscured by gray shadows of forgetfulness.

Recognizing the potential for renewal, it would be beneficial to initiate a reconstruction project. Strengthening certain parts of the structure, restoring vaults, and prioritizing safety would be paramount. The place of darkness would shine thanks to modern lighting, creating an inviting ambiance that ensures security.

The fusion of modern elements with historical characteristics creates a unique combination of past and present. Local artists would contribute through murals and installations, bringing colors and cultural stories into the space if they so desire.

What sets this passage apart would be active community participation in its restoration. Through meetings, surveys, and workshops, the wishes and needs of residents would be carefully considered. This inclusive approach would not only give the community a sense of ownership but would also result in a design reflecting the diversity of identities at the heart of the city.

The revived underground passage would have a multifaceted purpose, enriching the lives of all citizens. It would become a hub for local entrepreneurs, with cafes, boutiques, and art galleries. This space would not just be a passage but a destination that encourages encounters, socializing, and pride in shared cultural heritage.

The revitalized underground passage would become a symbol of urban renewal and the powerful potential for positive transformation within the community. It would represent the strength of collective vision, careful planning, and community involvement in the restoration process, fostering pride and unity among citizens. As footsteps echo through the renovated corridors, the narrative transmitted would not be just about concrete and light but about a community that resisted oblivion and collectively built its future.
