CTA Project

The floors are filthy. If I dropped something I wouldn't pick it up again.

Need more seating

Updated floors

needs to be regularly cleaned!

Flooring could be brighter/cleaner

More frequent cleaning, no dirty spots! Also there are still some social distancing sticker leftovers on the floor which they should have completely removed long ago!

dirty

Smell

More trains more often.

Disgusting grounds.

Trains are either late, or just ghost trains

Dirty floor

The platform is ok, it’s more the entrance that needs a touch up.

Filthy

These walls in all the underground stations are just ugly to look at. I would rather it have graffiti or any kind of artwork than these boring grey/brown panels

Clean with hot soapy water and a scrub brush!

Maybe having a heating area.

dirty floor sometimes

Modern engineering should make it possible to remove some of the posts.

I like the ceiling windows

Scrubbing of floors, repair of structural cracks (far worse at other loop and blue line stations). Trash removal from tracks

More seating

Lighting is dull.

The whole area is bad! Dirty. Whole area needs maintained . There needs to be security presents! Info should hang from the ceiling and leave the floor space open. This would make the area safer and less lottering

Dirty, please clean more often

there could be a waiting area added here

not an issue

Better lighting

All

Make this wall brighter. I would love to feel like I am not underground.

The tinted windows make for a dreary mood. Could be more colorful or allow more natural light to feel less drab.

Cleaner floor, maybe patterned

Cleaner floors

dull

Lack of seating

None

dirty walls

Places to sit

maybe some seating here

clean floors, add improved lighting, improved install uv cleaning devices in elevators and future deployed escalators, better security that does not stand around by stairs looking at phones with earbuds.

Filth on the ground

heating, benches, audio about train times

Seating

Artwork?

Needs a little TLC

Interior could be a bit nicer

more trash cans these are always full

Is there an interior design!

Platform needs to be overhauled, More seating, and a complete color change, or warmer lighting.

Floor is gross and weird

More seating

Murals, not just advertising

The entrance is generally fine

I literally don’t care how it looks, I’m more worried about getting to my destination on time. Run more trains and I won’t have to stay in the station for as long. However, more benches would be great.

Stop criminals from hopping turnstyles.

Bare walls look ugly and exposed tracks are dangerous

Floors have a old blue color, the information center is outdated, the train tracks need to be power washed. The blue outer outline plastic states dirty and old. The station also looks narrow and the pillers do not look presentable.

Needs more and brighter lights

No seating

Lack of seating

No columns this messes with line of Vision and creates dangerous zones for potentially falling into the tracks

Columns take up space and make it crowded

SIGNAGE! Would be really insightful for you to partner with UX students with service design/wayfinding experience. Reference MTA for inspiration. Also see Tokyo’s metro line for best in class examples.

these pillars could be bright colors, varied, such as red, blue, green, orange, yellow...

This is in the way. Removing it would help prevent people from clustering too close to the platform.

i like the natural lighting

I like to stand with my back next to the Support Beam to discourage pick pocketeters.

The tile color is drab

Benches here

Dirty floors and looks gross

Seems decent. Does anyone use this vending machine?

Lighting

Floor so dirty.

Angle of the floor tiles is quite unpleasant

Clean grime off walls

You could put folding seats on these pillars, and once people stood up, the seats would go into the pillar

No security.

platform should be wider

Other underground stations such as the Lake red line station have decorative tiles on the ceiling with improved lighting. This station would benefit from a similar approach.

Make an aquarium theme with visual art and music.

dirty

Ppl need to know which entrance is to what street, maybe put up some signs, and which exit is to bus 8, and 60

Old

They really went for function over form here. I would honestly just clean everything. That’s really all people want. If replacing it is the way to go, lean into a cohesive theme. You could just mosaic tile everything to look like a Chicago flag.

I have no issue with the interior here.

Potential for art (mosaics, murals, etc)

Additional places to sit as well as more accessible infrastructure

dirty floors

Colored glass will allow light and beauty

More heaters

The floor

I prefer Diet Coke

dirty

Colorful paint on the columns to match the ceiling tiles. Move trash cans over to the columns to make it seem less narrow. More colorful floors and cleaner. More uplighting to emphasize ceiling creating a sense of space.

Cleanliness

Not sure

Floor is extremely dirty looking and dated

Disgusting, needs cleaning

More indoor seating would be beneficial during cold weather

Better visibility of in and outbound trains

Make sure the car is aired out of cigarette and marijuana smoke. Make sure there's no homeless people and bums sleeping across 4 or five seats.

No chairs

Since this station is UIC/halsted I feel it should include UIC shuttle services Info, and colors that represent UIC.

Regular cleaning goes a long way.

Windows

Needs to be brighter

dark ceiling

I think that if the station was cleaner then it would be more appealing

dirty

The red line area feels dirty. Could use a cleaning and maybe different color palette to disguise the dirt.

Right outside the station is an enormous public space, that isn't being used at all

Larger text on signs, use happy colors. Clean it regularly

Designs to block the highway noise

Looks so harsh and is never this clean

Grimy

Greenery

could use some color

CTA can always use better signage!

Flooring improvement

The loud freeway is a frustrating experience at this station.

Repaint white

floors need to be redone

seating area

Best part of the station. Stay warm and wait for train.

More places to enter/exit

better handicapped accessible

Color brighter

more seating

I think they should focus on improving the train’s reliability and how crowded they always are before worrying about the lobby’s. Fix the real problem first

The trains need to come much more often

It’s ugly but it’s a train station so I don’t really care.

Dark and dreary

prettier trash cans

Add bike parking

subway walls are so dank and crusty

Cleaned up with more color

If there was a sign that displayed the train times on the outside of the structure that would be nice for passenger to see times as they are walking be rather then entering the station to have to see the train time.

Give me a bench!

Floor needs refinishing

It's grimy

Less drab colors

Fun/encouraging phrases with colors

Could probably be cleaner.

floor material and design could be more fun

Dirty

comfortability

Floors need to be deep cleaned to remove all grime and accumulated crystal formations

renovate

More trash cans & preferably some recycling & more seating options

Power wash regularly. The platform and the track walls.

paint red

walls are falling off!!

New paint, cleaner

Seating

Floor plan

too narrow

Cleaner

More heating zones

I feel like the glass/glazing looks kind of old

Dark

Cleanliness

Rusting steel and stained floors

Brighter lights and paint

Flooring disgusting

This is nice and blocks the wind while still letting sunlight in. Many students congregate here while they wait for their train. Maybe it could be more inviting with somewhere to sit?

Dirty flooring that is usually sticky

Needs more seating on the platform

Underused Space

I would be interested to know if student input is accounted for when vending machines are installed

Seating needed

White beams show dirt a lot

Graphics could be so much better. Look at the German stations!

The floor is usually very gross (people drop food and sometimes puke/etc)

more lights so the tunnels don't look decrepit, clean the walls

More seating

Brighter lighting

Better flooring

The flooring looks filthy! The pillars are dirty. It's dark

I don't think the battery machine works anymore

more benches

Brighter station.

New floors

To start with - clean the floors , urine and fecal matter are common . Repair the floor tiles .

Nothing dripping from the ceiling (moldy water)

places to sit

Have trains run more often

Better lighting

Maybe the screen can be where the pepsi vending machine is, instead off to the side

sky blue

The station just needs an upgrade & more security

More circulation of air to remove the stench

The floor is gross

Interior is okk but where to sit?

Lights out, light housings dirty

floor is dull and seems dirty

Lighting on the walls and the bare concrete are uninviting.

Trash in between the rails

add more advertisements

Could they power wash the floors more often?

The tunnel walls could be a brighter color, even in the picture, they are dark. I would paint them light pink to match the flooring or yellow to match the trim in the platform ceiling

Seating here

Better trash receptacle locations.

Chipping paint could be fixes

Cold lighting, makes everything look very uninviting

More train time signage would be amazing on other parts of the platform.

Seating.

Regular cleanings would suffice

Some artwork , general cleanliness

Dark and dirty looking. Could do with brightening up and a scrub from top to bottom.

Improve the windows. They need cleaning and beauty.

Just make it brighter and cleaner.

Bench

A piece of printed art interspersed with ads to add visual interest.

Could add murals onto the walls to make it look appealing to riders

better flooring, ceilings, and lighting that is more timeless and reflects the neighborhood but is easy to clean and does not look dirty.

Picture of Blue Line from Harlem is quite different!

Leaky ceiling

wider platform downstairs

floors are dirty and disgusting

I just feel like a more routinely cleaned and polished station would show the pride we have in our city rather than an acceptance of unsanitary conditions.

More routine cleaning of floors, fining of those who do graffiti and smoke on CTA property and vehicles.

worn and dirty floors

New, clean floor

Good natural lighting but no seating

The floors look old and dirty. New tile might brighten it up?

Platform is narrow and feels cramp surging big surge of riders.

Zzzzz

ground looks dirty

necesita arte

New floor - this one seems dated

Filth

It's clean down here today.

Floors

Visible stains and grime should be deep cleaned

More seating

The vending machines are broken and it would be nice if they were removed or replaced

This station has a lot of windows but it looks so dark and sterile inside.

More seats

Bench

Less harsh lighting

dirty

no places to sit

More space perhaps

I feel less safe when there are large objects/walls obstructing my view of the rest of the platform

More artwork and not just a few ads.

update tiles

Floor, is very gross and even when they clean it it really never seems clean.

Policeman

I dislike it when the security staff are blocking the turnstiles

Dirty floors and paint

Panels deteriorated, discolored and missing

Keep platform cleaner.

low light

chairs

Better lighting

Add platform screen doors and clean tracks

Clean to allow brighter, more visible exterior

CLEAN

Seating

Structural foundation

More signage? Warmer light More art?

Perpendicular displays hurt people flow.

Place needs to be bleached and cleaned

No seats

no seating =( everyone just stands here when it's cold

warmer lighting

Dirty

SAFETY SECURITY INVITING WELCOMING

Dirty. Not an architectural issue, but a maintenance one.

It’s a bit gloomy, overall colors of the station is muted

Stairs are not wide enough to comfortably let two people walk shoulder to shoulder

Safe clean TRAIN. forget about the damn platform and concentrate on making the RIDE better

Floors needs to be redone looks super old colors are faded and colors on track walls should be redone as well

Dirty

We are missing a police presence in this picture.

Dirty Floors, usually theres garbage here too.

riders often wait up here until the train comes, so information more tailored towards that would be nice

Dirty floor

More light/better light

Private security clog

Floor is gross

Floors could be cleaner

Remove the blue walls and add colorful art as well as the columns. And power wash the floor

Likely nothing can be done, but all the poles, signs, etc make it difficult to walk up and down the platform and take away from sightlines.

A lighter floor. Nice white tile floors have really made transit stations look more appealing to me. A good example of this is the new Path train platforms as the World Trade Center in New York

Fill columns out so not a reservoir for pee, clean and make colorful like a light blue or better even mosaics

The boards displaying wait times are pretty far apart. They can be hard to see from a distance.

Looks old

Get Coke not Pepsi.

Lower level platforms are frightening.

Dirty floor

The door turnstile should be redesigned. It seems like a safety hazard.

Deep clean the floor (or basically everything)

Less mold

Outer walls and ceilings look deteriorated

The color scheme feels drab, along with the stains

Add seating.

Walls are worn and dirty

No safety patrols.

Replace all lighting with consistent LED fixtures that all work.

not enough benches, anti homeless

trains are reliable

there is only one bench available

Covered. Cold in the winter

I like the open space. I prefer to take trains above roadway than red line.

i could see art being implemented along this wall

Additional heaters for during the winter or more enclosed areas

More seats.

Trash on rails

No protection. Loud.

Have working next train times boards.

Beautiful lighting at night

MORE BENCHES😭

Missing a guard dog and like 5 cops with weapons drawn at all times to Decrease from Thugs hanging out.

More seating

I would like to see more comfortable and clean sitting options

minimize advertising boards through install of kiosks. add better family of benches, trash containers. improved lighting and security. deep clean hard surfaces

The ground has a ton of dirt and gravel

Anything that can be done to provide noise protection from the highway.

covered trash bins

Can use a new coat of paint

Too loud/Breezy

more seating across platform

Find ways to reduce exposure to car traffic noise

More seating

more seats

Power clean ceiling. Refresh with paint

More heating areas

Overheard art, more heat lamps, obvious cc tv cameras

N/a

More trash cans as well

Signage is much improved with new digital displays. Would be even more awesome if they displayed bus connections - 7,8,60,126...

some kind of buffer for noise

The highway’s is incredibly loud

More benches.

more seating

More cameras

sound barrier

More heaters, more receptacles.

Cold. No heat lamps. Minimal seating

más bancos

Wider platform

Again artwork would make it more inviting

No ideas here- there is very little space

heat light

.

Maybe add boards here to post something

Loud

Loud cars

Cellphone charging station for iphone and android

The anti-homeless design of the benches should be removed.

Benches

Tile art of kids and balloons would be joyful. And it’s difficult to come out of the exit you want despite the directions.

More seating around this area

Not as bad as red line area but I think both areas need some type of security presence. Still needs cleaning and regular maintenance. All signage from ceiling

Cleaner floors

Wider platforms

more seating with heating infrastructure

This is where the shelter is with the heater and it probably smells like urine.

So cold in the winter. Windy

Maybe not stare at open highway?

Remove excessive adverts

Nothing

Additional accessible routes for those differently abled

Enclose it

More ac/heated places

Block the songs from the highway

Drunk people might fall

More access to Electric heaters and outlets

More seating

nice wide platform!

more benches

Would strongly strongly prefer sound canceling / dampening between the high way and the station platform.

Please add noise-canceling barriers to block the highway noises

Very cold and windy in winter

feels so unsafe near the expressway

Digital/real time alerts

this part is fairly okay! i think the underground subway is the one that needs fixing

Loud as hell

Protection from elements

more seating

more seating

IDOT needs to fix this off ramp, constant near accidents

better signage

Benches need backing

Also cleaned up with more color

This is a choke point

It's fine

Replace with circle tables, maybe with ads on the back of each chair to keep the revenue?

Tight, small

Deep clean the walls

Could be digital for better updates & broadcast elevator info for all stations given disabled people are coming on at one stop but also need info about the stop they’re going to

less ads

Clearer directional exits

More heaters

Public art

Ugly

Constrained passthrough here

Maybe paint and something interesting

Sticky beige flooring

Needs more signage

The bars on the bench seem unnecessary, and there need to be more benches generally.

There are not enough of these notification screens, or they are hard to see. They should be everywhere, al all levels.

Too much confusing signage

More seating

This looks worn

again, really hate this floor

Cleaner floors

This pic would look better with a train coming into the station. Alas, that is rare.

More friendly graphics and signage

paint happy colors

The exit signs are confusing

Wet floors and dirty drains that have never worked since installation

Choke points by the stairs/escalators

It’s dirty looking and bare, would love more art

Add "where do I go?" visual clues. There's a clash of colors happening along with not enough color - two problems that shouldn't exist together but do. The floor and the walls should coordinate better (color) and by using gradients of color, guide the user to the exit or the platform. The signage is terrible, when it exits

Signage is cluttered and confusing.

It would be nice to see more surfaces in this station used for public art. Something with bright color and energy.

More train time signage above the platform would be nice

more seating, with barriers so people cannot sleep

Better seating

Just make it brighter and cleaner.

Tunnels should look different from each other so you can remember which way to go. Cardinal directions don't mean a lot in CTA stations because you've been twisted around so many times by the time you get to the exits.

Subway tiles can be in a more classic style

Excessive traffic noise

Opportunity for art on infrastructure.

d

New ceiling

These ad boards should be replaced with more seating!

garbage on floor

What if instead of metal we used more organic materials like wood?

This tile and terrazzo flooring, while an outdated color scheme, provide a historical impression that does not necessarily need to be updated. More art or design that follows this theme could enliven this area

What is going on there?

Feels unsafe being so close to the tracks and exposed on both sides

lack of seating

Better lighting

coming up the stairs feels rushed/closed off and is not a good experience

Floor, It is really never fully cleaned, it always has a thick layer of grime on it

Policeman

Why is there no simple directional signage? North (with an arrow) or South (again with an arrow)

More space to move around if possible. this should be more of a foyer, less of a hallway.

If you don't come from the city, where are these places - north or south. How do you get downtown? Signage is horrible and not very informative.

Create enclosure for weatherization during the cold months, improve skylighting with glass ceiling

Remove the brown. Too many colors. ask an interior designer and any other designer. 3 colors max main color secondary color detail color

Comfy seating options

Unnecessary advertisements. Take up too much space. Block views and flow of people

noise, ugly, pollution, wind, etc

less bars as barriers - maybe hard-to-destroy glass or other materials

Modern look

I don't think I'm alone in not always being able to visualize what the NE corner looks like or the SE corner... I'm familiar with the city but unless this is the stop I take every single day, it's hard to remember which stairwell I need to take to be closest to my destination when I get to street level. Especially when moving quickly out of the station, my brain can't quickly grasp what's on the NE corner so I inevitably just pick one, usually pick incorrectly, then have to cross a street or two once I'm above ground. I've always wondered why the CTA doesn't put a picture of that street-level corner next to the stairwell or even a real time monitor to show up what it looks like at the top of that stairwell.

Cops! U need more COPS!!!

More colors and murals would help along with seating and overall cleanliness

People can trip and fall off when on phone

CTA employee usually doing nothing.

More welcoming than the Roosevelt red stop

Paint the dirty fixture

Something to block wind when it's cold

Add more benches with some wind blocking walls

To many ad signs block sightlines and make moving around on the platform difficult.

Add more arrival time displays. Usually if I'm coming downstairs and trying to look to see if my train is arriving soon and I need to run, there's only one display I can barely see.

Sound abatement walls to eliminate car traffic noise

The outside isn't as bad. More warming lights

Metal detectors, and police " cubicle "

Dated tiles

Platform as a whole feels cluttered and poor sight lines don't contribute to a feeling of safety.

I understand the safety reasons for this fencing and it also makes the whole space feel more cramped.

more warming stations-- it is usually very crowded trying to fit everyone in 1-2 warming stations and this is a particularly cold station.

brighter/clean flooring

stinky

More trains more often.

There needs to be an active authority figure installed in all stations that can help to curb the harassment. I was minding my own business on the train and I was kicked with full force by a random individual… we exchanged no looks or words and I hadn’t done anything to warrant the assault but it happened anyway. When the attendant finally came by it took them 10 minutes and the person was long gone of course

Ugly, dirty floor.

Cheap tile in a boring color is ugly. Hire an architect to select attractive tile. Or at least keep hire staff to keep it super clean.

Clean with hot soapy water and a scrub brush!

Better wayfinding signs, such as telling you which exit for the northbound #22, the northbound #36 and the southbound buses.

Power washing platform once a month or every other month

It never looks this clean. And why isn’t it brighter? Again—the tile work is so uncreative and dull.

More seating

where is security

None

This tile is so bland and basic.

Broken fences seem like a safety concern as well as add to a vibe of general instability and safety concerns.

Not shown: stairs need to be better maintained

More seating

decor like in the cermak green line stop would add to this station

really cold and needs > 1 heated waiting area

Dirty floor

Better shelter design?

Too many signs

maybe updating the floors? these just look so dirty and old

Canopies needs to let in more light. Digital signage needs to be added. Wind barriers to enclose the platform from gusty winds coming off the lake.

Floor is just concrete

More seating

Exposed tracks are dangerous

Exposed tracks are dangerous - needs platform screen doors

Needs more and better lighting

This platform could use another heater or two. The wind gets pretty bad up there.

One bench every so often doesn’t really help when you think of how many riders will be boarding, there could be 4 train cars between one bench and the next

Cold and heaters don’t work

Platform has best view in the city. Love it. Promote it. Get rid of those godawful scummy murals hanging from roof over escalator. They are depressing.

The leeching of the garbage water indicates a lack of care (and failure to understand how people throw away their coffees before boarding—especially when they don’t want us having drinks on board)

this is so dirty! this needs to be cleaned!

there should be a bench here

Everything is too barebones in the worst way. Every arrival into any station should feel “grand” if only in a small way. Support structure should be clad with durable, appealing material. This platform looks more like you’re shipping people as freight from place to place. You should feel as though you’ve been ferried from one Chicago destination to the next.

Maybe another bench?

needs a power/wash

Better lighting at the station

Bench

The floor. Something that will emphasize the chrome and blue tile. Less harsh lighting.

Keep it very clean. Maybe light sculpture

Ceiling and roof can use more natural light or glass

Fuck corporations, I mean gotta pay the bills, but still

messy

Floor could be brighter, this pattern makes it look dirty

Label the east and west sides of the outside of the escalators to show which one goes up and which one goes down viewable from inside a train car.

I don't see any security cameras in this entire area.

Too bright here, not bright enough by the ticket machine

More police

Add inspirational quotes encouraging kindness that change every two weeks. The quotes at the library have inspired me.

again, it could use more color - whether pictures, or simply random colorful tiles

More heated spaces/protection from elements. More trains, more easily visible ETA signage for upcoming trains.

Not bad

Lack of seating

😀

Again, would rather more trains run than anything else. More heaters would be great.

Easier to read/find direction signs

More trash bins

UIC decor

more decoration would be nice

These direction signs are kind of useless. I live here and still have to think about what road and where that exit leads to. Just stay exit to W Division or something

Noise/wind barriers between train tracks and traffic

More cleaning!

More cameras

It's nice but dated, not world class. The floor looks inconsistent with the rest of the design and is slippery.

Change flooring to something cleaner looking and easier to clean, always super dirty and half the time there is human feces somewhere in the station and is tracked through the station

Barrier to keep noise and pollution out

UNIVERSAL SIMBALS

For three most part fine, escalator issues are frequent sometimes making accessibility more limited. Otherwise looks like most stations.

Updated color

Looks cleaner than normal. Usually garbage and smokers on main platform make for a poor experience.

churros

More seating

update colors, more art

Include cross streets for where exit is

Signs made bigger

Overall this is a great location...wide, cleaner than the red line, safer.

Zzzz

this pictures makes the floors look less disgusting than reality

Unsecure and unsightly

Add colorful lighting(neon or led) for give the station character

Seating.

Clean up

N/A

Security needed

The seating & the lack of enough warmers is a bit much for it to be a transfer station.

Again clean the floors , adjust harsh lighting , eliminate some of the steel

New floors

The heated room toward the back of this photo consistently smells like piss. Sometimes I can’t even stand there because the smell is so strong, so I just have to be cold instead and stand away from the heat lamps

Needs better wayfinding. There are so many exits. Are you on the LaSalle street side or the Clark side?

TOO LOUD. Scary to see cars flying by. Block this??

More seating

It would be nice to have back support

more seating

more art

color of walls and floor could use some pops of color or artwork

Clean floor

Additional lighting could be nice. Note this is NOT the red line Roosevelt stop (it’s a Roosevelt stop for othe L lines though).

More brighter lights

Unsafe area

Simpler and clear signage. Easy to read.

Well kept

More searing, cold

There is zero announcements when a train is approaching. The floors are sometim es clean however most of the time dirty. This station should look like the fullerton station and feel like the.

very easy for someone to fall onto the tracks

More benches

only one bench in sight

More seating needed

Dull station.

A lighter floor. Like white or whitish tiles

I only use underground

more heating

platform too narrow

Not enough benches, hostile archetecture

Potentially if there were small walls parallel and against the beams to provide a little cover to the wind could benefit passengers greatly.

Same as last

More seating

This blue tile would look much better if it were power washed

Very harsh, cold and windy

Cleaner seating wind block

Wider platforms

More art, less fast food ads.

More lighting within the middle part of the ceiling would improve lighting conditions, especially at night.

more benches

Filth

In general, I'm OK with the Green/Orange area.

Why is there a cone?

Clearer/updated signage

More benches

Cleaner
