"DuSable Park is expected to be transformed into a vibrant urban park that celebrates the history and enhances the neighbourhood. In this design, the park will serve as a crucial component of the adjacent park system, addressing the shortcomings and functional deficiencies of the surrounding parks. Simultaneously, it aims to establish an inclusive urban recreational space, catering to the needs of the community by providing a free, serene, safe, and comfortable environment for activities. The design principles are outlined as follows:
Safety as a Priority: Emphasizing natural surveillance, discouraging the presence of heavy walls and concealed corners, and advocating for the use of transparent materials. Additionally, careful consideration is given to the design of lighting systems to ensure the safety of users during nighttime activities.
Inclusive Recreation: The design intends to transform the park into a “children's park” suitable for all age groups throughout the year. This is achieved through the incorporation of public art, recreational facilities, and interactive installations to cater to the diverse needs of visitors.
Pet-Friendly Environment: The pet-friendly aspect is deemed significant within the design, offering expansive grounds and diverse facilities to accommodate both people and their pets, fostering opportunities for interaction and play.
Immersive Spaces: By utilizing topography and vegetation to divide the site into distinct functional areas, each space is designed to facilitate activities without interference. Consideration of natural factors such as sunlight and wind is integrated to create comfortable recreational spaces.
