Designers were asked to use Engage to gather community feedback on their proposal. See that people said
For Stage 1, designers were asked to use Engage to gather community feedback on what they would like to see in the select site.
Here is your chance to provide design feedback to the designer. Please be respectiful.
"Chicago's asset is a long waterfront consisting of parks and beaches. DuSable Park is an element of it, but the comfortable pedestrian environment is interrupted and the park is difficult to access. We decided to add pedestrian connections while not turning the park into a transit zone. We added bridges to connect to other riverbanks and also connected the park to the 400 N Lake Shore Drive master plan project. Bridges can be widened to avoid interfering with water traffic. We saturated the small area of the park with different themed areas. The main elements of the park reflect the historic features of the city. Jean-Baptiste Pointe du Sable is considered the founder of Chicago. When he built his house, the place was a deserted and wild area. Thus, the silhouette of the house appeared in the park as a symbol of the beginning of Chicago.
The interpretation of the French park refers back to du Sable's origins. Most of the park is made up of wilderness elements. It also maintains historical motifs. The area is filled with water and its level depends on the current weather conditions. Historic plants such as wild onions and garlic have been used as the main landscaping elements. We also created viewpoints of the harbor and the navigable entrance to the city. We created all parts of the park in such a way that they were interesting and rich for the residents, without the knowledge of symbolic information.
For example, the elements of the house are easily movable and allow you to change the places of shading, as well as to create different compositions, thereby increasing the interactivity of the park. The part of the park adjacent to the road is filled with large trees, this provides an accessible separation of the park from the road. In our project we combined a modern park with historical motifs of the place."
