"DuSable Park, a 3-acre undeveloped reclaimed peninsula, is in need of invigoration to revitalize the community by reflecting its identity, values, and vision for the future. The neighborhood will be able to feel the benefits of the public space as it represents unity and inclusivity through diversity.
Unity through diversity refers to the concept of fostering a sense of cohesion and solidarity within a community by embracing and celebrating its diverse range of cultures, backgrounds, and perspectives. It recognizes that by valuing and respecting the differences among individuals, communities can come together in a spirit of inclusivity and collaboration, ultimately strengthening their bonds and collective identity.
The designers were able to provide different spaces for various activities such as the garden, esplanade, multi-purpose courts, amphitheater, picnic area, exhibition area, outdoor gym, playground, animal playground, drinking fountains, wifi area, open area, and jog and bike path. It also represented the identity of Chicago through diversity represented in the circular path mirroring the logo of Chicago of the 6 strikes star. Also, the form of the pathways is based on a knot that represents unity. The colorful and playful shapes in the park embody equality to all. Lastly, we incorporate monument at the center of the park that symbolizes unity and reflects the vibrant history of DuSable Park and its people."
